On the Road with the Coalition to Improve59

Dear ,

The Coalition to Improve59 has been hard at work to bring major changes to the Route 59 corridor and to secure state funding for these changes. Here’s what we have been up to:

Events Recap:

  • NYS Senator David Carlucci participates in Improve59 Albany meetings.
Albany Delegation: A series of successful meetings in Albany is building momentum for the plan to dramatically improve infrastructure along Route 59 in Ramapo, as community leaders presented the bold new initiative to Senator David Carlucci, Assemblymember Ellen C. Jaffee, the Cuomo Administration and top officials from the State Department of Transportation. (Pictured right: NYS Senator David Carlucci participates in Improve59 Albany meetings.)
  • Community Education Day: The Coalition held another Community Education Day at Town Square to speak with local shoppers who stopped by to view renderings, obtain resources and learn more about ways to get involved. Stay tuned for the date and location of our next booth, and email us if you wish to get involved!

A Growing Coalition:

  • Key Endorsements: Improve59 is proud to announce a key endorsement from the Monsey Bulletin, which published the following excerpt from an editorial about the initiative:
This is a wonderful undertaking that we fully support, and we ask our local town officials to support the project, or at least some version of it. This entire Rte. 59 corridor is a nightmare for the everyday volume of traffic passing through, and is completely lacking the infrastructure to accommodate the sizable pedestrian population in the area, with an absence of crosswalks, safe sidewalks, and well managed flow of traffic."
- Monsey Bulletin Editorial, April 2017
  • Citizens: We’ve made it easy for community members to get involved. As a result, dozens of letters of support have been sent to key legislators and state officials through our website, and new members are joining the coalition every day. We have also begun adding names of coalition members who proudly support Improve59 to our website. Please email us to give permission to add your name today if you wish to show you proudly support Improve59 as well! Help spread the word by encouraging others to get involved as described in the “How to Help” section below!
